A large historical re-enactment brought Imperial Rome to the Flegrean coast with parades, costumed actors, gladiators and Roman senators: thousands of residents and tourists followed the route from the Aragonese Castle of Baia to Villa Ferretti, a property confiscated from organized crime and now open to the community.
The event turned local monumental sites into an open-air stage for a day, combining heritage visits with cultural and social activities.
Events like this help promote and safeguard monumental and archaeological assets: they raise public awareness, increase visitor engagement and support conservation through cultural tourism. Using confiscated properties for public initiatives restores civic value to historic sites.
The re-enactment was organised by local associations, historical re-enactment groups and volunteers, with support from the municipal administration. Schools, citizens and local operators participated, creating a day of community engagement and historical remembrance.
The event drew coaches and visitors from across the Campania region, benefiting local businesses such as cafés and restaurants while raising the profile of the area’s monuments and public uses of reclaimed properties.
Such initiatives offer an effective approach to monument promotion: blending spectacle, education and social reuse supports preservation and wider public enjoyment of cultural heritage.
