At Vinitaly winemakers ask to save the Ronco della Chiesa vineyard in Brazzano

During Vinitaly a group of producers from across Italy formed under the name Vignaioli per il Ronco della Chiesa and sent an open letter to the regional president requesting a direct dialogue about the management of the Collio hills affected by the flood of 17 November 2025. The appeal focuses on the historic vineyard Ronco della Chiesa, planted in the 1950s and damaged by a landslide and mudflow.

The signatories do not seek compensations or top-down interventions; they ask to be placed at the decision-making table so their knowledge can inform restoration and safety measures. The letter highlights the role of vineyards and traditional farming in stabilizing slopes and preserving the rural landscape.

Why it matters for the village

The historic vineyard is part of the cultural and productive identity of Brazzano. Poorly designed safety works could undermine long-standing agricultural practices and the continuity of local production, affecting both the economy and the village heritage.

Requests and proposals

  • Establish joint working groups including local producers, technicians and administrators.
  • Carry out technical assessments that consider traditional farming practices and landscape stability.
  • Design calibrated safety measures that protect soil and conserve the vineyard as a shared asset.

How the community can help

Residents and local stakeholders can support the protection of the village and vineyard by:

  • Attending public meetings and consultations promoted by local institutions.
  • Promoting initiatives that link traditional agricultural knowledge to landslide prevention.
  • Backing proposals that recognize farming expertise as a resource for territorial management.

The case of the Ronco della Chiesa underlines the need for shared approaches to safeguard Italian borghi and their rural landscapes: protecting the land means preserving the productive identity that defines them.
